Tongue In Check!

Scriptures For Meditation — Proverbs 18:20-21; Romans 4:17-21; Ezekiel 37:1-10
 
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” Pro 18:21
 
The scripture quoted above, is a relatively familiar verse of scripture that we may have heard referenced a few times before now. As I meditated on today’s devotional, I realised that the verse before actually gives this latter verse a more rounded meaning.
 

“A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Pro 18:20

 
Proverbs 18:20 begins by likening the consequences of the words that proceed out of a person’s mouth, to the harvest that is produced when a seed is sown — Whatever you produce with your mouth is what will be available to fill your stomach!
 
Then it expands on this analogy by warning us that we have the power to speak life or death with the words that come out of our mouths; and whatever you love to speak will determine the fruits that will be produced or harvested in your life.
 

What is the fruit of the lips that is produced by the words that you speak concerning your situation? Are you speaking and producing death or life?

From the very first revelations of God in the book of Genesis, we see how God established a pattern for everything that He created by declaring a word expressing His intentions and His expectations concerning that thing.
 
The bible tells us that God made us in His own image and in His likeness; thus we also like God, have been created with the intention to act like Him, and an expectation to speak like He does, calling the things that do not exist as though they did!
 
Child of God, the enemy’s strategy is to get you to agree with his lies concerning that situation or his own version of the “truth”, in order to get you to speak his intentions and expectations concerning your destiny, thereby producing death.
 
On the other hand, God’s strategy for you is to declare what He has said in spite of the contrary things you may have seen, heard or felt, and speak His words that are Spirit and life to counter the wiles of the evil one.
 
Keep your tongue in check when you feel like saying anything that is contrary to what you have been believing God for, or out of agreement with what He has said concerning your situation – here’s a good scripture to remember when you are tempted to do otherwise:
 
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” Hebrews 13:15, NIV

Prayer Focus

  1. Begin to declare the word of the Lord concerning this retreat; declare that He will reveal Himself and confirm His word as “The God of Multiplication”.
  2. Begin to declare, that wherever there has been barrenness, dryness, lack, poverty, sickness or want in your life, The God of Multiplication will show up to manifest His awesome power, that He will release His favour and grace concerning your circumstances, to produce the abundant life that Christ promised in His word.
  3. Declare His word concerning what you are believing Him for – your expectations.
  4. Declare His word concerning your health, your wellbeing, the work of your hands, your settlement, your progress, your provision, your destiny.
  5. Begin to speak an outpouring of the Spirit of God upon our gathering.
  6. Speak a release of His unction upon all the ministers
  7. Speak a release of the Life of God and the power of His resurrection into every aspect of your life and every situation that will be brought before Him as we gather at the retreat.
  8. Spend time in praise and thank Him in advance for what He will do in our midst, and what He will do in your life.
 
 
We’ll be praying corporately every night over the 7 days of fasting.
