“You are loosed from your infirmities”

Scripture For Meditation —John 11:41-44; 2 Cor 3:13-18

Veiled Faces

Finally, the verse from our meditation yesterday, mentions Lazarus’s face, as another part of his body that was also bound by the graveclothes.

Now, the covered face is even more debilitating than bound hands and feet, because being covered, it affects and disables so many of the senses that are required for wholesome living —The eyes, ears, nose and the ears.

Symbolically, the effect of this is that the covered face can be representative of spiritual limitations that have the consequence of impairing the senses as highlighted below:

  • The EyesNo vision
  • The NoseStench of death and decay
  • The Mouthineffective words, no voice, undermined, misunderstood
  • The EarsCan’t hear; lack of direction
  • The Head / Mind Confusion, depression, muddled thoughts, lack of understanding of spiritual things.

A person could be born again, and yet be disabled in any one of the areas or ways mentioned above!

And yet again, as with the bound hands and feet, this ought not to be so!

Unveiled Faces

The bible tells us another way by which we might have our face covered, apart from demonic activities — it is when we are caught up in the law instead of living in the liberty of the Spirit.

The law represents the works of the flesh that puts our faith in all the efforts of our own abilities and wisdom.

And as the bible says:

2Co 3:13 We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was destined to fade away.

2Co 3:14 But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ.

2Co 3:15 Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.

2Co 3:16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

2Co 3:17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

2Co 3:18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Prayer Focus

Confess and Repent from the works of the flesh that you may have unwittingly relied on to accomplish what could rightly and only be done by the Spirit of God.

Pray for God to unveil your face and open the eyes of your Spirit to see as God intends.

Pray that your eyes will behold His glory even in that situation that has troubled you.

Pray for your ears to open to hear the voice of the Shepherd of your soul; to hear His instructions and to understand His directions for your life.

Pray that God will remove the stench of death, stagnation and decay from your life; and that He will release the fragrance of Christ all over you.

Pray that God will open your mouth and give you a voice that carries authority and influence; a voice that commands respect and favour.

Declare that You have the mind of Christ! Pray for a sound mind that’s free from oppressive and depressive thoughts.

Pray for clarity of thought and the spirit of understanding.

Shalom,
