An Imminent Change

Scriptures For Meditation — Is 66:7-8; Is 65:17-24

Yesterday in our scripture meditation, we read in Isaiah 26:17-18 about the discouragement of a people, lamenting about their frustrated expectations and the disappointment of pregnancy and the pain of labour without the benefit of delivering a live baby.

But in the first of our scripture text for today’s meditation, we see God presenting a prophetic declaration of an impending change and a new reality to Israel.

As soon as Zion Travailed, She Brought Forth

God was saying to His people; I know that the reality of your past experiences and the story of your present situation has been one of frustrated labour of pain without gain and aborted deliverances, but I am now declaring a different future to you!

“Before the birth pains even begin, Jerusalem gives birth to a son.

Who has ever seen anything as strange as this? Who ever heard of such a thing? Has a nation ever been born in a single day? Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment? But by the time Jerusalem’s birth pains begin, her children will be born.” (Isa 66:7-8, NLT)

In this prophecy, God was promising them that a time was imminent upon them, when their story will change suddenly and their circumstances will turn around to conform with His will, plans and purposes for their existence — they would be delivered from their captivity, gathered from where they have been scattered, brought back into their own land and made to become a nation again.

And all these was going to happen in one day; suddenly, in an instant, and without the delay or pain of a protracted labour!

Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day, or shall a nation be born at once?

Normally, the law of nature demands that through the operation of the principle of seed time and harvest, there is usually a time lapse between when a seed is sown and then the process of germination, maturity and harvest; but He was going to suspend the law of nature and make it happen in a moment.

As Albert Barnes said in his commentary —

“Months and years are required before the earth would be covered with its luxuriant and beautiful productions But here would be an event as remarkable as if the earth should bring forth its productions in a single day.”

Can you also believe this for yourself?

Can you dare to believe that God can do the same in your situation and about your life? That He can bring about your change in one day, in an instant and in a sudden moment?

If God can do it (as He did) for a whole nation, is He not able to do it for you as well?

Selah,

Pastor Wale Ola

PRAYER FOCUS

Our prayers for today will be taken from our second scripture text Is 65:17-24.

Every one of those verses contain a promise to Israel about the blessings of their coming change that we could also use as a template or pattern to shape our prayers today.

Dear Lord, please do something new in my life; change my story and wipe away the painful memories of my past experiences.

Let my life become a source of joy and gladness, and my household be a continuous manifestation of your mercy and victory.

Wipe away the tears of my disappointments and give me reasons to celebrate and rejoice in this new month.

I pray Lord, that your promises concerning my life will no longer be delayed; that I will not suffer any more miscarriages and your plans for my life will no longer be aborted.

I pray that I will no longer labour in vain neither will I toil for minimum returns or no rewards.

I pray that long will I enjoy the fruits of my labour and the work of my hands the the produce of my harvest will be blessed.

Bring the month of June before God, and pray that the answers to these petitions will be manifest in your life in the Name of Jesus.

Amen.

Frustrated Expectations

Scripture For Meditation — Isaiah 26:17-18

When a woman is pregnant, she is said to be “expecting”.

Expecting means: To think or believe something will happen, or someone will arrive. It also means Normal; what usually happens; to regard (someone) as likely to do or be something.

Let’s do a quick word study on the meaning of the root word, expect.

When the root word “Expect” , is used, we mean to say that we believe that something will happen, or to consider something as likely to happen, to believe that (someone or something) will arrive soon.

So, Expect means: To anticipate, await, look for, hope for, watch for, look forward to, look ahead to, have in prospect; contemplate, bargain for/on, bank on, be prepared for, plan for; predict, forecast, foresee, prophesy, envisage, envision.

Unfortunately however, as we read in today’s scripture text, things sometimes don’t go, or happen as we expected; times are, when our expectations are delayed or even completely disappointed at other times.

“As a woman with child approaches the time to give birth, She is in pain and struggles and cries out in her labor, So we were before You, O LORD.

We have been with child, we have twisted and struggled in labor; We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish salvation for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born.” (Isa 26:17-18 Amplified)

We have been with child — Like women with child; we have been full of hopes and expectations of great things, of deliverance from our enemies, and of the help from God being at hand:

We have been in pain — We have gone through the waiting period of pregnancy carrying the hope of a coming baby; sometimes in great distress and anxiety, and now we have come to the time of birth when we expect that the baby will be delivered; travailing in birth, we looked upon the pain as a prelude to a happy issue of things: ThatThis baby will be born!

We have as it were brought forth wind — But alas; our efforts have availed nothing. (The issue of all their painful toil was like the result of a false pregnancy!)

We have been through the waiting, we have suffered patiently in the hope; we have been through the pain of the travailing, but without the expectant result!

Can you identify with all that?

Hear again, what God is saying to you dear friend:

“Zion, would I bring you to the moment of birth and not let it happen?” says the LORD. “Would I close up a mother’s body when it is time for her baby to be born?” says your God.” (Isa 66:9 NIRV).

Keep Speaking Right!

Keep declaring the words of the prophecy and promise that God has given to you; keep speaking the right things concerning your life and into your situation. That is what pleases God!

“My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will be glad, even mine;

Yes, my heart will rejoice when your lips speak right things.

Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord all the day long.

For surely there is a latter end [a future and a reward], and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off.” (Pro 23:15, Amplified)

May Fasting & Prayers — Day 1

Theme Scripture for Meditation: Isaiah 66:7-9

Sometime this month, I had a conversation with God in which He asked me about a pregnant woman in labour going through a difficult time in delivering the child — What will she do at that point; will she just give up and let the baby die in her womb without delivering it? Will the medical personnel give up and abandon the process?

Today, we’ll be focussing particularly on verse 9, which has been resounding in my spirit for the better part of this month.

Here, God was symbolically using the scenario of a pregnant woman at the point of delivery, who was about to go into labour, to the state of His people who were at this time in exile under Babylonian captivity.

In the text, God was speaking into a seemingly hopeless situation and declaring something totally contrary to the prevalent state of things as they stood.

His word to them through the Prophet, was that there was going to be a supernatural, sudden turnaround of their captivity and they would experience a quick, pain free birthing that would deliver the promise of the Messiah and of Israel as a reborn nation, gathered together again, from whence they had been scattered.

Even though the prophecy in these verses, pertain to the Jewish nation and the coming of the Messiah and flourishing of the Gospel church, for the purposes of our fasting and prayers this month, we will go outside of the verse in context, and see a truth about God that is universal and consistent with His sovereign nature.

I read a particular translation of this verse, that really conveys this truth — The Doug-Rheims Bible Translation

“Shall not I that make others to bring forth children, myself bring forth, saith the Lord? shall I, that give generation to others, be barren, saith the Lord thy God?” (Isa 66:9)

Meditate on that for a moment…

God was putting forth the omnipotence of His majesty and His track record as a life-giver, the way maker — the God of breakthroughs and sudden turn arounds.

Just as that woman going through the delay of the difficult delivery will not be allowed to give up on the process by the midwife and accompanying medical attendants in that labour room, God is asking you reading this, going through a delay and difficult moment at the point of delivering God’s promises for your destiny or season not to give up, but to p-u-s-h!

They will encourage the woman to push and if she is too weak or incapable of doing so herself naturally, they will look for ways to intervene in order to prevent a destiny from being miscarried and aborted and safely deliver the baby in her womb.

The Holy Spirit is the midwife of your destiny at this point, and God is about to intervene in the delivery of His promises concerning you —if God is able to bring your personal desires to pass, is He not able to bring His own desires and will concerning you to pass?

He will not bring you to the point of birth and then abandon you and not cause you to bring forth!

My dear friend, it is time for the push to happen — God is about to intervene to bring forth that destiny that you have been carrying about in your womb. Don’t give up on that baby just yet!

Selah…

Pastor Wale Ola

Prayer Focus

Just get on your knees, assume a birthing position and push; together with the Holy Spirit, we will all act as the accompanying medical support to push through at the place of prayer.

If you are too tired or too weak to push, simply turn it over to God and ask God for a divine intervention to help bring the promise to birth and to prevent the baby from being still born!

Taking The Limits Off

Scriptures For Meditation — Luke 4:16-21; John 8:36

A recurring theme of the bible is the concept of deliverance, which is a by product of Salvation.

Even the Name Jesus, is derived from the Hebrew word Yeshua, which means Jehovah is Salvation.

In our first scripture for today’s meditation (Luke 4:16-21), Jesus lays out for us, His ministry calling card, detailing the essence of His assignment on earth. A close look at the words that He wrote, will show that the verses are expressing different aspects of deliverance from situations that will cause limitations in people’s lives.

This month’s fasting and prayers will be focused on exactly this — Praying for God to take the limits off of our lives!

Many of us are limited by different issues, facing diverse challenges in our lives, that are or have limited us and are contending with our ability to experience and enjoy the abundant life that Christ has promised us. We will stand together in the place of prayers over the next 3 days, to pray that our lives will begin to align with, and manifest the fullness of the promises of God to us in John 8:36.

Prayer Focus

In whatever ways we are being limited; in whatever situations the enemy has been exacting upon us, we are petitioning God to deliver us in the Name of Jesus, to manifest His glory and loose us and set us free indeed from every limitation that is hindering our progress in life, or has hindered us from fulfilling our God-ordained destinies.

Shalom!

DAY 2: FEBRUARY 2019 FASTING AND PRAYERS

DAY 2: FEBRUARY 2019 FASTING AND PRAYERS

Contending For Your Destiny

Scripture Reading: Matt 16:21-23; Eph 5:13-17

Mat 16:21  From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.

Mat 16:22  But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!”

Mat 16:23  Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”

Matt 16:21-23 (NLT)

Whose Report Will You Believe?

One sure promise that God has given to us concerning this year, is that there will be changes to the stories of our lives; changes that will glorify His Name and move us into His destined purposes for our lives in this season. Can you say “Amen” to that?

Now as God has spoken, you have a decision to make – you can either choose to believe the word that God has spoken and start declaring it over your life and situation, or you can choose to continue to look at the things that you see in the natural, and ignore the word that God has spoken. But please remember, whatever choice you do make, you will eat the fruits thereof. Selah

As Paul writes, “we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” (Heb 10:39)

The enemy’s strategy has always been to position himself to challenge the truth of the word that God has spoken to His children, and to try to derail them as they pursue the fulfilment of the word in their lives; he did it with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, he did it with Jesus at the temptation and in the Garden of Gethsemane; and no doubt, he will try the same strategy against you.

As the enemy did with Peter in Matt 16:21-23, sometimes, he will even use the people that are close to us, to give us “well-meaning counsel” that will bring us out of alignment with the will of God and His timely purpose for the season that we are in.

“Do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is…!”

Maybe even now as you read this, he has already started to Weave his web of deception and lies to confuse your mind and prise the word of faith from your heart, make you change what you see, so that he can make you change your confession….and this is only the second month into the new year!

We will end today’s meditation by reflecting on the reading of our second scripture text from the Amplified translation of the bible:

Eph 5:13  But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light [of God’s precepts], for  it is light that makes everything visible.

Eph 5:14  For this reason He says, “Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine [as dawn] upon you and give you light.”

Eph 5:15  Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people],

Eph 5:16   making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil.

Eph 5:17  Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is.

Contending For Your Destiny

Scripture Reading: 1Timothy 1:18; Psalm 102:13

What did God say to you? What had He said to you concerning your destiny, your career, your ministry, your finances, your children, this year?

What lies has the enemy been speaking to you through the circumstances and situations that you are experiencing right now?

Whose report will you believe?

Some Questions To Answer

As we begin our fasting and prayers for the month of February, I will like us to consider a few more questions which I believe have been inspired by the Spirit of God to move us into alignment with His promises concerning this season, and that we can use to pray through to the victory that is ours in Christ for this year—

  • Can you relate to any of the issues listed below?

    • Do you feel as though you have been fighting an unending battle that you never seem to be able to get a break from?
    • Do you sometimes feel powerless and exhausted fighting against an enemy that seems to be too strong for you?
    • Stagnation?
    • Disappointments?
    • Hinderance?
    • Delay?

If you have answered yes to any of those questions, please take some time to rejoice and celebrate the victory that you are about to experience over these challenges in this season of your life, as God exposes and destroys the operation of the spirit of Jezebel in your life!

The spirit of Jezebel is not a person! It is the spirit of discouragement that fights against the prophetic word that has been spoken over your life and destiny.

    How The Spirit Operates

The Spirit of Jezebel operates as strong demonic influences that stir up discouragement, weariness, jealously, resentment and suspicion, and is often vindictive toward the person who detects its presence or confronts its operation. It conspires to drive people to abort the progress and success of divinely ordained projects, purposes, relationships, organisation, potential and destinies.

It will sometimes use false prophecies or so-called, dreams, visions or “insights from God” to bring fear, confusion and discouragement, in order to negate or counter a genuine word from God or work of God. It is a beguiling spirit that draws the unwitting in and recruits them as an army against the work of God in your life.

    The Warfare

Remember as you examine the activities of this spirit that you will discover that you can be both the victim and perpetrator. As we deal with this spirit working against you, you also have to be aware that the spirit can use you as an instrument to discourage, hinder or sabotage the work or the plans of God in someone else’s life as well.

    The Victory

When the Lord gives you victory over this spirit, you will notice that a veil will be lifted, and scales of deception will fall from your spiritual eyes or from the eyes of those that the enemy has beguiled and had been instigating against you to hinder your efforts. Truth will prevail and set you free from anything built upon fabrications, lies, falsehood and untruths.

    Shalom,

    Pastor Wale Ola

    Prayer Focus

    • Lord, let me hear clearly, Your instructions that I need to hear to walk in obedience to Your word.
    • Lord Unveil my eyes; let me know the truth of Your word concerning my life and every situation that I am in right now.
    • Expose and destroy the influence of every lie of the enemy that has been designed to sabotage your plans and purposes for my life.
    • Deliver me from every deception and the lies that the enemy has used to distract me or to resist my progress and promotion; whether through words, my thoughts, my emotions and feelings, offences, jealousy, false prophecies, dreams and visions that are not from God.
    • Uproot everything in my life and in the lives of my helpers, my thinking and my emotions, that has kept me in bondage to the spirit that has been deployed to hinder the fulfilment of your word concerning my life.
    • I declare the truth of Your word over my life (Psalm 102:13).

January Prayer and Fasting Day 3 — (Thursday 31st)

    The River of God

Scriptures For Meditation — Ezekiel 47:6-12

Our scripture for meditation today is part of the key scriptures that God gave to us at the beginning of the year.

In keeping with our prayer focus for our fasting this month, we’ll be using these verses to pray for souls for GLA and the prosperity of the ministry.

God showed Prophet Ezekiel a vision of the River of God following out from the sanctuary down through the desert and finally emptying into the valley of the dead sea.

Very significantly, the consequence or the impact of this River as it flows through the different regions that it touches, is quite profound!

As the NLT translated verse 9,

“There will be swarms of living things wherever the water of this river flows. Fish will abound in the Dead Sea, for its waters will become fresh. Life will flourish wherever this water flows.”

And it goes on in verse 12 of the same translation:

“Fruit trees of all kinds will grow along both sides of the river. The leaves of these trees will never turn brown and fall, and there will always be fruit on their branches. There will be a new crop every month, for they are watered by the river flowing from the Temple. The fruit will be for food and the leaves for healing.”

There was freshness everywhere the River went. Dead things come alive and living things thrive even more; there’s prosperity on every side and barren desert places become fruitful. There will be sustained nourishment and every month will yield its increase!

Oh that that same River will flow into our ministry; what a glorious change it would make in our lives!

Let’s reach out to God and believe Him together for this miracle in Jesus’s Name!

    Shalom,

    Pastor Wale Ola

    Prayer Focus

    • Let’s pray for the River of God to flow into every part of this ministry and to bring revival.

    • Pray for God to bring healing and deliverance everywhere the River flows.

    • Pray for fruitfulness on every side; for the efforts and work of the ministry to bear fruit.

    • Bring every programme and ministry initiative we will be doing this year before God and pray for God’s blessing on them to prosper them.

    • Pray for souls to be saved and added to the church in abundance.

    • Pray that every month of this year will see souls saved and added to the church from all the nations of the world.

    • Pray that God will establish and cause those who are already planted in the church to flourish and be grounded in Him.

January Prayer and Fasting Day 2 — (Wednesday 30th)

January Prayer and Fasting Day 2 — (Wednesday 30th)

    An Obstacle To Overcome

    Scriptures For Meditation — 2Cor 4:1-4; Col 1:13

Yesterday, we looked into the heart of the Father to see a heart that is relentless in the pursuit of sinners, not to punish them, but to love them into becoming His children.

As was said also, we have been enlisted as co-workers to help in the realisation of this desire.

In response to this, we have undertaken the task to partner with God in prayers over this fasting period to see His kingdom enlarge; however our commitment to this task, must go beyond simply praying: “Lord, please make it happen in Jesus’s Name”.

    We have to work smart!

We need to understand and work with the knowledge of the critical truth expressed in our first scripture for today — we would be dealing with people whose minds have been blinded by the enemy, in order to prevent them from receiving the truth of the gospel that can save them and set them free; and then, some are bound and need to be loosed even after they get saved, in order to remain in the kingdom.

    Our Task

Our Task today will be to use the authority that God has given to us in Christ Jesus, to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of realising the objective. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Let’s go in the power of the Holy Ghost and see His kingdom come as souls are saved and added to His kingdom!

    Prayer Focus

    • Pray for the minds that have been blocked in resistance to the gospel to be opened and to become responsive to the truth.

    • Take authority over the lies of the enemy and cast down every imagination and knowledge that are being exalted above the word of God.

    • Unlock the prison doors of the strongholds that have kept the people bound, then loose the chains and set the captives free

    • Pray for God to provide opportunities and to orchestrate situations to witness the gospel to the unsaved.

    • Call forth the souls into God’s kingdom and also into our fellowship.

    January Fasting & Prayers — Day 1 (Tuesday 29th)

    January Fasting & Prayers — Day 1 (Tuesday 29th)

    Partnering With God

Scriptures For Meditation: Matthew 9:35-38; Proverbs 11:30

As I prepared to write the blog for this month’s fasting and prayers, a few thoughts came to my mind concerning what was the best way to capture and express what was on my heart concerning the focal point of our fasting.

Then an overriding thought came to my mind as I considered this question:

    I wonder what’s on God’s mind?

I wonder if God has any prayer points; but why would He? Seeing as all things were created by Him and for Him?

But then I thought again; we spend so much time presenting our prayer lists before God; what about agreeing with Him on His own prayer point?

If God had one prayer point, what would it be? That’s what I would want to pray about!

Well, the answer to this question is not a super-spiritually discerned, theological revelation. It can be found by simply looking into the heart of the Father —

The heart of the Father beats for souls to be saved and delivered from the damnation of hell.

That’s the primary reason that He sent His Son Jesus Christ.

It follows then, that we as believers, ought to partner with God, to see His will established on the earth by helping to bring His desire to pass.

Our prayer this month will be our seed into the expansion of God’s kingdom.

Whilst we are believing God for prosperity in our own personal lives; in our business, ministry, finances, careers, etc, we will be partnering in prayers with God over the next three days, to believe with Him for the expansion of His kingdom.

Let’s burden our hearts with that one thing that we know is paramount in God’s heart. When Jesus declared that He will build His church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it, He was looking forward to you and I as believers and ransomed souls, to be the building blocks for His Church.

    What an awesome privilege!

That the creator and possessor of the heavens and the earth will deem it fit to call us His children, co-labourers with Him and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus!

How else can we begin repay that love than by reflecting that same love in our lives and through our actions to bring many more souls into God’s family?

Can you say to the Lord today:

Here I am Lord; send me. I’m available and willing to be used by you!

    Selah

    Pastor Wale Ola

    Prayer Focus

    • Let’s start by thanking God for this ministry; for God’s faithfulness through the years, for the souls that have been saved and touched by the ministry of this fellowship.
    • Let’s thank Him for all those people that He has used over the years to support and to serve in this ministry.
    • Let’s thank Him for the testimonies and the manifestation of His presence and blessings in our lives.
    • Let’s put our needs to the side for the moment and with our whole heart, pray and believe for souls to be saved and added to God’s kingdom.
    • As GLA Lighthouse is an extension of God’s kingdom, let’s pray that we will also see the manifestation of the expansion of His kingdom even in this ministry, as we experience supernatural growth and expansion in the year 2019 in Jesus’s Name.
    • Let’s each pray for God to show us how we can as individuals, be used more by Him in this year for the expansion of His kingdom.
    • Let’s pray for the Anointing and every empowerment and resource we need to be equipped to do this.

OCTOBER 2020 FASTING AND PRAYERS — DAY 3

    FIGHT WITH PURPOSE

    Scripture For Meditation — 1Cor 9:24-27; Prov 20:18; Pro 24:3-6

The Lord is returning us once again to one of the scriptures that we read on Day 1 of our fasting and prayers – 1 Cor 9:24—27

A few years ago, I was going through a time of fasting and prayers “engaging the enemy in spiritual warfare”. It was one of those times of prayer when you feel so connected and anointed and feel that you can take on the world. In the midst of my smugness and bravado, God spoke a word to me, that promptly punctured my bubble —

Weapons don’t win wars, strategies do!

Yesterday, we talked about how with all the superior armament of the American and Allied forces, they were being outwitted by an enemy that was significantly less equipped, but very strategic in their approach to warfare. To win the war, the allied forces had to review their strategies and come up with the appropriate plans to outwit the enemy.

The core of the text that we will be focusing on today is verse 26, and the salient point of our mediation today is very simple.

Before the statement that he made in verse 26, Paul had been talking about the need to be intentional and focussed in the pursuit of purpose — Aiming to run in order to get the prize; training with discipline in order to compete well.

And in verse 26, Paul declares:

So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. (NLT)

The New International Version puts it slightly differently —

Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.

There are too many of us Christians praying what I like to call “Machine Gun Prayers”; swinging and spraying and hoping something hits. The Lord is calling on us today, to be strategic in our prayers, to be purposeful in our warfare.

In Pro 20:18 the bible tells us that—

Plans succeed through good counsel; don’t go to war without wise advice.

And again in Prov 24:3-6 the Bible says:

Pro 24:3 A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense.

Pro 24:4 Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.

Pro 24:5 The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger.

Pro 24:6 So don’t go to war without wise guidance; victory depends on having many advisers.

    Prayer Focus

Let’s take a break from our “warfare” today, and seek the face and counsel of the Lord, first to understand what our real warfare is, and then to understand what appropriate weapons He has put at our disposal to fight the war.

Let’s pray to understand the wiles or strategies that the enemy has been using to hinder us or is deploying against us in this season that we are in.

Let’s ask God to show us the strategies that we must apply to gain the victory over the enemy in order to fulfil the divine purpose for our lives!

Let’s pray for the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit to confront the enemy and appropriate the victory that God secured for us through the finished works of Christ on Calvary’s Cross. Hallelujah!

Let’s thank God for the victory that is inevitably ours, and go forth in faith and confidence as we regain lost ground and take new territories in the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’s Name.

    Amen.

OCTOBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 2

OCTOBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 2

    NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER

Scriptures For Meditation: Heb 10:35-39; Isa 40:27-31

A few years ago at the peak of the Gulf War, I remember listening to a US Army General give an interview after his forces had suffered some casualties in the hands of the insurgents.

The interviewer had wondered why the allied forces in spite of their superior numerical, tactical and weaponry advantages, were still finding it difficult to contain the enemy forces.

The answer that he gave the interviewer in response to the question had stuck in my mind ever since that day.

    He said:

“The most dangerous enemy that you can face is an enemy that has no escape plans or an exit strategy.”

He explained that one of the core elements of warfare strategy and planning is to ensure the safe return of the forces from any course of action that is pursued. So the overall consideration of viability of a plan would not just be based on what you are able to achieve, but was oftentimes, also assessed with an eye on the potential loss of lives necessary to achieve that objective —You want to be able to lead your men into battle but also, to bring them safely back home.

He went on to make the point that there is an inherent weakness in every battle plan, when you also have to keep an eye on the exit strategy; and when you encounter an enemy on the battle ground who has come on a one-way suicide mission and has no distractions about thinking of escaping, you really are up against it!

He would take risks that you wouldn’t consider, go places that you won’t go and do things that many “right thinking” people would not even countenance.

    What’s Your Exit Strategy?

As this came to my mind again today, I realise that perhaps one of the reasons that many believers face an uphill battle against the enemy is because some of us are fighting with an eye on an exit strategy!

In our relationships, careers, marriages, ministry engagements, and different areas of our lives, we may have unwittingly programmed failure into our endeavours because we have made room for an “if this doesn’t work I’ll try that” or maybe “if this doesn’t work , I’m out of here” attitude in our planning. We have a built-in exit strategy ready to go!

When Esther faced the king on behalf of her nation, she went in without an exit strategy. When Jesus was confronted with the cross, He had no exit strategy. When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego faced the fiery furnace, they had no exit strategy.

My dear friend, it is time for you to let the enemy know that you have no exit strategy in pursuit of God’s call on your life and your God-given vision. There will be no retreat, there will be no surrender!

May God bless, refresh and strengthen you as wait on Him in Jesus’s Name.

    Shalom!

OCTOBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 1

OCTOBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 1

    RUN TO WIN

    Scriptures For Meditation: 2Tim 2:1-4; 1Cor 9:24-27

2Ti 2:1 Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.

2Ti 2:2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

2Ti 2:3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

2Ti 2:4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.

2Ti 2:5 And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules.

The theme of this month’s fasting and prayers is Standing Strong In The Lord and Finishing The Race.

More than at any other time that most people can remember especially over the last century, the events of the few months have shaken the foundation of their faith.

People’s faith in humanity has seen a battering with the evil tendencies of man against his fellow man being exposed in despicable acts of racism and wanton violence all across the globe.

Many are finding and lending their voice in protest and social action to try and address the situation, and many are turning the searchlight on the church, finding faults and cracks, and then questioning the reason or even the need for its existence, or for their continued affiliation with it.

Friend, this sentiment may be closer home than you think. The struggles and pressures that the events of 2020 have wreaked on people emotionally, financially, physically and socially, have had great spiritual consequences that are beginning to take a toll on their faith or walk with God. Many are simply exhausted and overwhelmed!

We will do well to remember Paul’s charge to his protege and son in the Lord, Timothy, in our scripture reading for today.

    Stay Strong In His Grace

First, Paul admonishes Timothy to continue with the work the Lord had commissioned him to do. That my friend, is also God’s first charge to you in these times that we are in. You must continue diligently and steadfastly in the work that God has put in your hands to do —

Be strong in the Lord through the grace that you have in Christ Jesus.

    Endure Hardship

Then Paul encourages him to endure the hardship that was inevitable in his walk with God. He uses the analogy of the attitude of a model soldier to put his charge across.

We must also remember this as believers —

Hardship is part and parcel of our Christian walk which we must endure and push through, as we serve in the Lord’s vineyard.

    Disentangle Yourself, Stay Focused

Next, Paul cautions Timothy that as a soldier of Christ, he must not be so entangled or immersed in worldly affairs and sentiments, that he loses focus on his core assignment. This is so that he may please the Lord who has called and enlisted him into His army.

    Compete To Win

And finally, Paul drives home his point by reminding him that he must compete to win. You don’t get any prizes for just showing up and participating —

You must endure to the end and compete in accordance to the rules to win the prize!

    Change Your Clothes

My dear friend, you’ve come too far to give up or draw back now.

It’s time to take off your civilian attire and put your war clothes back on! There’s a battle to be fought and a victory to be claimed. The war has already been won for us on the cross of Calvary. Hallelujah!

The Captain of the Lord’s Host is leading you into battle; Jehovah Sabbaoth is raising His standard over you —

You will not die on the battle field neither will you be vanquished By the enemy.

    Stay The Course!

Just stay strong and endure and you will experience the victory that is yours in Christ Jesus!

    Shalom,

    Pastor Wale Ola

    PRAYER FOCUS

Ask God for a fresh supply of His grace to walk the walk and to do the work He has commissioned you to do.

Ask Him to show you the areas of your life where you may have become entangled or distracted by the “affairs of the world”.

Dedicate those areas and those things to Him, and ask Him to give you the grace to fully yield them up to Him.

Pray for the help of the Holy Spirit to bring the necessary changes and implement the adjustments to address and correct the lapses.

Pray for the grace not just to participate and show up, but to run in alignment with the demands of your calling and His assignment, for your life, and to complete the race and win the prize in Jesus’s Name.

    Amen.

SEPTEMBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 3

SEPTEMBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 3

    100% His!

Scriptures For Meditation: Gen 22:1-3; Prov 3:9; Acts 5:1-11

Over the past two days of our fasting and prayers, God has been speaking to us about consecration. We are going to take this a bit further today, by meditating on one of the practical consequences of consecration.

We have looked at the “spiritual” aspects of the act of consecration — Making ourselves separated unto God, eschewing sin and striving to live holy lives as we dedicate our lives to Him.

However, consecration goes beyond who we are and what we do; consecration is also manifest in our attitude to what we have; what we do with what we have, or how we steward what we have.

When we consecrate ourselves to God, we are saying that He owns us; we are declaring ourselves to be His absolute possession, God’s own property. And this not just our physical selves, but also our substance and possessions as well!

Abraham was fully consecrated unto God!

In our main scripture reading for today, we see this exemplified by Abraham, in his response to a demand by God, for what was the most valuable thing to him.

As we read in our text:

Gen 22:1 Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”

Gen 22:2 “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”

Gen 22:3 The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about.

If God called to you as He did to Abraham and ask you to give up your most prized possession to Him, what would your response be? How quickly would you respond? How far would you go?

Abraham was instant in his response and was total in his commitment.

Nothing meant more to him, than to obey and to please God. Nothing was too valuable to him that he could not fully give to God.

Friend, what is that one thing or indeed those things that you have held on dearly to, that you are not fully yielding up to God? What are those “non-negotiable” things in our lives, those areas that we have not fully given God full access to, or things that we may not have fully yielded up to Him to possess?

Let’s think about this today and respond as the Holy Spirit will prompt us to. Is there anything in your life that you are unwittingly valuing higher than God? Are there things that have become like idols in your heart that you are dedicated to and worship more than you do God?

God is calling unto us today to examine our lives, and respond to the call of consecration. Let us today, rededicate not just ourselves, but also our substance, our time, our everything to Him.

    As the song says,

    Everything, everything,

Lord You are, everything to me

    My Treasure, my priority,

    Who can compare to you?

Great is the measure of Your royalty,

    O Morning Star,

    You truly are, EVERYTHING!

Is God truly “everything” to you?

    Selah…

    Pastor Wale Ola

    PRAYER FOCUS

Ask God to show you areas of your life that may not be fully consecrated to Him.

Ask Him to show you the true state of your heart in relation to your earthly possessions that have possessed you or have taken time away from God that He is deserving of you.

Dedicate those areas and those things to Him, and ask Him to give you the grace to fully yield them up to Him.

Dedicate your job, career, gifting and talents, time, material possessions, even “your” ministry; your whole substance to Him — Make them all fully ready and 100% available for His use.

    Amen.

SEPTEMBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 2

SEPTEMBER 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 2

    A Consecrated Life

    Scriptures For Meditation—

Joshua 3:5 Then Joshua told the people, “Purify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do great wonders among you.

Romans 12:1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

Eph 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

As the weather cools and the final quarter of the year looms, many of us begin to take stock. We reflect on where we have come from, contemplate where we are now and imagine where we would like to go. For some of us, this exercise brings us face to face with our disappointments, failures and seemingly unanswered prayers.

In pondering what may have happened this year, we may recognise the blockers to success we are still carrying around with us. Sin. Deliberate disregard for the revealed truth of God or failure to act as we know we ought to (James 4:17).

Repentance is necessary and should be practiced often as we continue on the journey of faith. However, beyond repentance (repeated turning away from sin), we should also seek consecration which is the higher calling.

Consecration is a decision to be set apart — To be deliberate in our pursuit and service to God.

A consecrated life is not spent looking for sins to avoid. Instead, it is yielded to God’s original plan for your life. It is recognising that we were created to worship Him and our lives are His to do with as He requires for the furtherance of His Kingdom.

Consecration seeks to draw near to God, so He can draw near to you (James 4:8).

When Joshua asked the people to purify themselves, it was because the Lord was going to “visit” them to do wonders. Today, this still holds true, we must be consecrated to manifest God’s Holy power in our lives daily, as He has residence in our bodies and is always with us.

In the story recorded in Joshua, the priests carried the Ark of the Covenant of God and as soon as they stepped in the River Jordan, it dried up so the people could pass. Do you know you are a priest (1Peter 2:9) carrying the Holy Spirit within you?

Your consecration produces the same results they got!

Imagine being able to part the seas of depression, lack, sickness, loss etc. so that those whom the Lord has assigned to you (and yourself) can cross over?

What a joy to perform the good works He planned in advance for us to do! (Eph 2:10)

Over the next two days and beyond, let us bring our lives into consecration unto the Lord. There is still time to finish 2020 strong. For when we purify ourselves, indeed, He will do wonders amongst us!

    Shalom,

    Sade Abiodun

    Prayer Focus

Let us thank God for the chance to re-focus and consecrate our lives today

Pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, for He alone can help us sustain a consecrated life

Let’s release every disappointment of the past, fear and negative emotion concerning 2020. Each day is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Pray for a fresh vision even for the last quarter of the year, that we may indeed perform the good works God has prepared in advance for us to do

As we consecrate ourselves, let us call for the power of God to manifest in our lives and make a way, not just for us for those all around us.

AUGUST 2020 Fasting and Prayers —Day 3

AUGUST 2020 Fasting and Prayers —Day 3

    You Say What?

Scriptures For Meditation— Prov 18:21, Rom 4:17

Pro 18:21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Some years ago, I attended a prophetic conference where one of the speakers made a statement that really made a lasting impression on me, and has been a recurring admonition in my heart ever since.

    He said:

Your destiny is in your mouth!

There are so many things that come naturally to us as thinking rational human beings. We have been taught and conditioned to look, listen, feel, reason and then talk.

So essentially, we speak as we see, we say what we hear, we believe what we feel and then declare what we think about the information our minds have processed and then store the results in our hearts.

As Jesus tells us in Matthew 12:34, “…whatever is in your heart is what you say”.

The question then is: What is in your heart?

Satan uses this very knowledge as a strategy to fight us in his battle against us. We are bombarded daily with visuals, sounds and thoughts that are designed to overwhelm our hearts and bring us to the place where we then inadvertently begin to shape our destinies by the words that we declare.

In proverbs 4:23-25, the bible tells us (New Living Translation):

Pro 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Pro 4:24 Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech.

Pro 4:25 Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.

Everyday we turn on our televisions or read the News from whatever medium, the prognosis and forecasts by the “experts” about the days ahead are to say the least, dreary and very gloomy. There are talks of a “Second Wave” of the virus, recession, job losses and more deaths.

While these things may be the inevitable consequence of what the world has been through in the last 8 months of the year, our lot as believers is different!

What shall we then say to these things?

2Co 4:17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

2Co 4:18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

And also, we can do as Abraham did, as the bible tells us in Romans 4:17:

In spite of what Abraham saw and felt about the situation of His life, he chose instead to still believe God’s promise which He had made to him — he trusted in the God that calls the things that are not as though they were. And God came through for him!

    Prayer Focus

On this last day of the fast, we will begin by first thanking God for His mercies and goodness that’s us.

After this, let’s recount these blessings that we have experienced even in this season; let’s fill our minds with the remembrance of His faithfulness and let our mouths begin to speak from the abundance of the thankfulness in our hearts.

Let’s look forward to the coming months (beginning with the month of September) with expectation and joy, and let’s begin to declare the promises of God concerning our lives.

Let’s speak to shape our destinies by the words of faith that we will begin to declare from today. We will not speak as the world speaks. We will instead, declare what God has said.

Let’s intercede for this nation. Let’s petition God for mercy and protection.

Let’s cancel all the negative pronouncements and declare that only the counsel of God shall stand.

AUGUST 2020 FASTING AND PRAYERS — Day 1

AUGUST 2020 FASTING AND PRAYERS — Day 1

    Declaring and Claiming His Promises

Scriptures For Meditation — Ex 23:25; Matt 8:14-17

As the people of Israel prepared to settle in Canaan, God gave them a series of laws and ordinances that they were to live by, and which would regulate their ways of life.

Together with these statutes, God also made so many promises to them, one of which was to provide them with the blessing of divine health.

Exo 23:25 “So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.

In another scripture, he categorically promised them that if they obeyed his commandments and served Him diligently, He would shield them and make them immune to any of the diseases that their Egyptian taskmasters suffered from.

And the LORD will protect you from all sickness. He will not let you suffer from the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all your enemies! (Dt 7:15 NLT)

This promise of divine health that God made to His people, is indeed a very pertinent and appropriate promise for us to claim in these times that we are in.

As the nations of the world begin to slowly open up their borders to allow the free flow of people in and out, and steps are being taken to restore some sort of normalcy to social gatherings.

With schools being mandated to resume in the coming weeks, many parents look at the portend from the News they are being fed about the virus, and may be anxious about their children going back to school in this climate.

Very few can categorically say with any degree of certainty, what we are to expect in terms of the possible spread or hopeful containment of the virus.

But there is One who knows — The Omniscient and Omnipotent One. Hallelujah!

As good as this Old Testament promise was to the people of Israel, we New Testament believers have a better promise based on a better covenant secured by the blood of Jesus Christ concerning our health.

The bible tells us that Jesus already bore our sicknesses upon Himself on the cross and paid the price in full for us to walk in divine health and to protect us from every attack on our health.

    Prayer Focus

Our prayer Focus for this first day of our fasting is for the children that are returning to school.

Let’s petition God concerning their safety and security from the virus.

Let’s pray for God’s covering over the nations and their children, that the devourer will not use the virus as an occasion to take the lives of these children or to afflict them in any way.

Let’s plead the blood of Jesus over the schools and that God’s presence will overshadow them and keep the angels of death away.

Let’s pray specifically for our children, for God to keep them as the apple of His eyes and cause His glory to be a shield of protection around them.

We declare in the name of Jesus, that the Lord will keep sicknesses, diseases and death away from our households in Jesus’s Name. Amen.

July 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 3

July 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 3

    Are You Ready?

Scriptures For Meditation — Joshua 3:1-17; John 16:13; Psalm 32:8

“When you see the right thing, you will hear the right word.”

This was what the Lord impressed on my mind as I prepared to write today’s blog.

They are many things that are happening in the world and in many people’s lives right now that we haven’t ever seen before; too many things that we may not really know what we are meant to focus on. Maybe you can identify with this as you read this today.

On the first day of our fasting, God spoke to us about Moses and his burning bush experience — how his focus on the right thing was the precursor to him receiving a revelation of God’s plans concerning his life and the nation of Israel.

Perhaps God is waiting for you to also see right, so that you can hear Him right in this season?

    Looking Unto Jesus

In our scripture for meditation today, we see the children of Israel at the threshold of a very important intersection in their history; they were about to exit the wilderness and enter into a new phase of their journey into the promised land, as they crossed the Jordan River.

God this time, helped them with their focus, by telling them what they were to look at — they were to keep their eyes on the Ark of the Covenant, and on the priests on whose shoulders it was being carried.

The Ark of the Covenant was a representation of the Shekinah Glory, the very presence of God in the midst of the Israelites.

“That you may know the way by which you must go”, shows that as the ark of the covenant led the way, Israel would accomplish this impossible task of passing through the Jordan River, as they set their eyes upon God’s presence, and followed only after His leading.

When we are looking out for Divine guidance to navigate this season, it is critical that there be nothing in the way to obscure the object or to distort our vision of His leading.

    Will You FollowThe Way Maker?

As we stand on the threshold of the new things that God is about to do in our lives, our nation and ministry at this time, we also must heed the call to take our eyes off the things that surround and distract us, and keep them firmly focused on Jesus as He leads the way!

    “Sanctify Yourselves…”

The people were also enjoined to “Sanctify themselves”.

This means they were to separate themselves from common things to focus in on the LORD, and to see that the LORD will do wonders among them.

Hitherto, the Israelites had been led on their way by the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night; but now, things were to change —the Ark was now to be the Way Maker to lead them into the promised land.

Friends, I really believe in my heart that God is doing new things in His Church at this time that we have to correctly respond to. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus as He navigates us through this way that we’ve never been through before. We can’t afford to take our eyes off Him!

Are you ready and prepared to follow the Ark into Jordan…?

    Selah…

    Pastor Wale Ola

    PRAYER FOCUS

Let’s begin by sanctifying ourselves as we get ready to follow His Holy presence into the new place that He’s leading us into.

Let’s ask Him to show us what we need to address in our lives; what we need to rid ourselves of to make ourselves ready as brides prepared for the groom.

Let’s pray for the priests (the leaders that God has appointed) that they will stand strong to lead under the unction of God’s presence and power.

Let’s pray for them, that they will hear correctly and with clarity, the instructions that God is speaking to the Church at this time, so that the people they are leading can follow the leading of the Lord into their promised inheritance.

Let’s pray specifically for the leadership of GLA, that as we wait on the Lord for direction on the way to go in this season especially post-Covid, that we will open our ears, our eyes and our hearts to how God is leading His Church in this season that is upon us.

Pray for yourself, that God will give you the grace, wisdom and the boldness to embrace and step into the new things that He may be requiring of you.

July 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 2

July 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 2

    Behind The Scenes

Scriptures For Meditation — Ex 3:6-10; Ex 2:23-25

Our first scripture text that we are meditating on today, is a continuation of the text that we read yesterday.

Following Moses’ encounter and dialogue with God on Mount Horeb, God declared His plans concerning the deliverance of the children of Israel from the bondage of slavery in Egypt.

    A God Who Sees

Have you ever gone through a rough patch or experienced a tough situation where you have wondered if God saw your pain or even remembered you at all?

Can you imagine how the Israelites might have felt after being held in captivity for close to 430 years; can you imagine just how many generations have known nothing else about their heritage but the servitude of slavery?

And on a smaller scale, in the case of Moses at this time, he had been on his own personal wilderness journey of 40 years. He probably thought of himself as the man that time forgot!

When Moses woke up that day, as far as he knew, it was going to be just like any other day he had experienced over the last 40 years that he had been in the wilderness; Same mountain, same route, same routine, a normal day in the life of a simple shepherd; or so he thought!

He sure didn’t bargain for God to interrupt his “normal” in a spectacular way unannounced, and completely change the course of his life.

Friend, even when it looks like nothing is happening; when it seems like God had forgotten you; when you think that He’s not got you on His mind, He can show up on the scene and declare His awesome majesty in your life, in that situation.

God is at work on your behalf, behind the scene!

As we sing in that song:

“Right now, God is, working it out, working it out, God is working it out, right now”!

    A God Who Knows…

Hear what God Said to Moses:

Exo 3:7 And the LORD said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

Exo 3:8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

Exo 3:9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

Exo 3:10 Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”

    • God saw them in their affliction

    • God heard their cry

    • He knew their sorrows

Earlier on in Exodus 2:23-25, the bible also tells us how their plight was not unknown to God:

    • They cried out because of their bondage

    • God Heard

    • God Remembered

    • God Saw

    • God Responded by sending a deliverer to them, to bring them out of Egypt.

    PRAYER FOCUS

    • Let’s start by reading Psalm 77:1-20

    • Let’s cry out to God in faith today; let’s pray that He will open a book of remembrance for us

    • Let’s petition Him to look and note the affliction, the oppression, the injustice that we are suffering in our lives or that we have suffered and come to our defence and rescue us.

    • Pray for God to send deliverance so our destinies can be liberated from the shackles of the enemy.

    • Let’s pray for divine intervention in areas of our lives where we need God to show up.

    • Let’s pray for more of God’s presence in our lives; that we will have divine encounters with God as we wait on Him in Jesus’s Name.
